FOLLOWING the successful Bestmed TuksRace last year, which highlighted the successful partnerships of educational institutions, corporate and non-profit organisations, the 2015 Bestmed TuksRace returns again on Saturday, 21st February with an expected field of 13,000 participants in running, walking and wheelchair races.

With its focus on community and family participation, the event this year will include the new 1km race dedicated to raising awareness and funds for cancer, as well as the 21.1 km, 10km and 5km races and the 10km wheelchair races.

Dries La Grange, CEO of Bestmed says that it’s great to see such a mix of participants, from professional runners and walkers, wheelchair participants to families and children.  “With our goal to encourage healthy living and preventative healthcare, we are committed to sponsoring and supporting events, such as the Bestmed TuksRace, which since our partnership in 2011, has become one of the foremost events on the South African calendar.”

Bestmed’s relationship with the University of Pretoria spans six decades. To date the partnership includes the sponsorship of the TuksAthletics stable – the imminent TuksRace, TuksAthletics, the First Aid and Sports Trauma unit at TuksSport, the Medical Science Unit at the High Performance Centre (HPC), and the University of Pretoria Football Club.

The main beneficiary of the event is the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA), and in order to emphasise this, La Grange and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Pretoria, Professor Cheryl De La Rey, will be competing with each other in a newly introduced 1km race dedicated to cancer. La Grange will donate 50 times the entry fee of the 1km race, should Prof De La Rey win.

“Everybody has a friend, family member or colleague that has been affected by this disease; as such we invite the public to take part in this race, where they can donate towards the CANSA

proceeds. Each participant of this race will receive a pink flag,” says La Grange.

Entries to the race are still open and online registrations close today (February 17).

Entries will be taken at the venue from 04:00 until 5 minutes before the start of the race.

Grand Masters run for half price. (Entries on Race Day only)

Great Grand Masters and blind runners run for free. (Entries on Race Day only)

21.1km Race is pre-entries only (no on-the-day entries allowed).
