BAROKA FC will have a glorious two weeks moment of remaining on top of the Absa Premiership without any team frog-jumping them.
The league action is on break this weekend as it is a FIFA week which will also see Bafana Bafana taking on Burkina Faso in the World Cup qualifier at FNB Stadium this coming Saturday (October 7) before the focus could be shifted to the final match of the MTN8 involving SuperSport United and Cape Town City next weekend (October 14)
Bakgaga ba Ga-Mphahlele as the Limpopo based side are known goes to this break highly motivated after a 2-1 victory away to Kaizer Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban this past weekend.
The Kgoloke Thobejane’s mentored side who are still unbeaten this season are on top of the log with 15 points from seven matches, from four victories and three draws.
To add cherry on top of their unbeaten run this season, Baroka are also in celebration mood after their goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke’s famous heart-stopping equalising goal against Orlando Pirates on November 30 last year was shortlisted in the top 10 for the FIFA Puskas Awards. Ironically, Masuluke’s goal failed to win him the Absa Premiership Goal of the Year award which saw Kaizer Chiefs’ Simphiwe Tshabalala snatched the award ahead of him.
Meanwhile Baroka’s neighbours, Polokwane City’s lady luck remain distanced from them after they allowed Orlando Pirates to come from a 2-1 deficit to force them into a 2-all draw in another league match played over the past weekend at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. Arise and Shine who finished in the top 8 brackets last year are still to win a league game this season.
On the other hand, league defending champions BidVest Wits continued to sufferer more defeants and this time after they lost 1-0 away to Bloemfontein Celtic. The Clever Boys find themselves operating in the second position from the bottom with just five points from seven matches.
The rest of this past weekend’s results are: Mamelodi Sundowns 1 v Platinum Stars 0, Golden Arrows 1 v Chippa United 1, Ajax Cape Town 0 v Cape Town City 2 and Maritzburg United 0 v Free State Stars 1
League action will resume on October 17 with three matches taking place at various venues across the country with more matches playing the next day.
