Baxter, Khune rally support behind SA national teams

BAFANA Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter and captain, Itumeleng Khune have urged the public to put behind their club allegiance and support a national course.

South Africa’s three national teams will be in action tomorrow (Saturday, October 7) at various venues across the country.

The Proteas will be on Day 3 of their Second Test against Bangladesh at the Mangaung

Oval in Bloemfontein.

Next up will be Bafana Bafana in a crucial 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, near Soweto. Kick-off is at 3pm.

The Springboks will round off the day’s national team activities when they take on New Zealand in the 2017 Castle Lager Rugby Championship at DHL Newlands Stadium in

Cape Town, starting at 5.05pm.

“It is not often that we have this kind of programme on the calendars of various national teams, but this is clearly a crucial weekend of national pride. The good thing is that the matches are far and wide so it’s a nice variety for all the sports loving people of this country. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all three national teams – Bafana Bafana, the Springboks and the Proteas – the best of all luck. May we all fly the flag high this weekend,” said Baxter.

Khune echoed his sentiments: “As a player, nothing excites me more than knowing that the whole country is behind our national teams. When we walk on to the field, when we sing the national anthem, it is all about national pride and to my counterparts in cricket and rugby – FAF du Plessis and Eben Etzebeth – let’s go out there and deliver to the best of our abilities. Let us keep the flag flying high and make this beautiful country of ours proud. Let us inspire each other other with great performances, and I am confident that at the end of Saturday, all three of us will look back and smile at the good work done by our various national teams. Good luck to all of us,” said Khune.
