THE department of Sports, Arts and Culture in Limpopo will hosts School Sport Winter Games this coming weekend in Polokwane.
The games according to the department’s Jermina Kaka will be held at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, June 23 starting from 8.30 in the morning.
Among the dignitaries who are expected to grace the occasion include the department’s MEC, Onicca Moloi and education MEC, Ishmael Kgetjepe.
“These games are a culmination of games that were played from school, circuit, cluster and district levels, respectively. The talented athletes will be identified by federations through Limpopo Academy of Sport and be monitored by Limpopo Sport Confederation then will be recommended to Sport Focus Schools for further nurturing and development,” pointed out Kaka
Kaka added that: “The Winter Games also promotes the culture of continuous participation in sport as pronounced in the Sport and Recreation Plan. Furthermore, the purpose of hosting the games is consolidating Team Limpopo that will represent the Province at the 2018 National School Sport Winter Games.”
The prioritised sporting codes on the day will include football, netball, rugby, volleyball, hockey, tennis, chess, jukskei and khokho.
