ONYANGO’S OWN GOAL SLOW DOWNS SUNDOWNS’ TITLE CHASE

MAMELODI Sundowns’ goalkeeper Denis Onyango should be cursing himself after scoring in his own goal as the Brazilian played to a 1-all draw against Polokwane City on Tuesday night.
Sundowns who came to this match which was played at the Loftus Stadium highly motivated after their 3-0 victory over another Limpopo side, Black Leopards were looking forward to win this match and go all the way to the top of the Absa Premiership log.
The home side who were always dangerous whenever in possession made their intensions to win this match after scoring as early as the 10th minutes via Themba Zwane.
Not to be outdone, Rise and Shine (8th on the log with 28 points from 20 matches) fought back and put more pressure and their effort was rewarded late in the second half when they were awarded a free kick. Innocent Chikoya step forward to take the free kick which was well intercepted by Mpho Mvelase whose ball was aided into the yawning net by Onyango.
Sundowns remain on the second position with 35 points from 18 league matches, and they are two points behind log leaders BidVest Wits who are on top with 37 points from 20 matches.
City’s next match will be at home in Polokwane against Kaizer Chiefs. Kick-Off at the Peter Mokaba Stadium is at 8pm.
The league matches continues tomorrow with SuperSport United welcoming Orlando Pirates at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit at 7.30pm while Chippa United will entertain Golden Arrows at the Nelson Mandela Bay in Port Elizabeth on Friday at 8pm.
