POLOKWANE CITY RECLAIM THIRD SPOT AT THE EXPENSE OF AMAZULU

POLOKWANE City started the 2019 calendar on a positive note when they beat AmaZulu 3-2 to win the five goal Absa Premiership thriller on Saturday afternoon.
The victory in this Absa Premiership clash at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Limpopo’s capital, Polokwane saw Rise and Shine crawling back to the third spot on the log, the position they held shortly before festive holidays break before they were out-positioned by SuperSport United.
The home showed their determination to win the game, scoring two quick goals within a short space of 17 minutes via Bongile Booi and Walter Musona respectively.
The two goes did not break Usuthu’ spirit as they managed to pull one back through Bonginkosi Ntuli, but that did not bother the home side as they went on to make it 3-1 just minute before half-time and again through the energetic Musona who braced himself.
The visitors came back strongly in the second half and reduced the margin to 3-2 in the 55th minute via Siyathemba Sithebe but that was too little too late as City had already sealed their victory.
City are now third on the log with 26 points and they are seven points behind log leaders BidVest Wits and two points behind second placed Orlando Pirates.
Meanwhile BidVest Wits maintained their top position with a 2-1 victory away to Free State Stars with Pirates also remaining on the second position after forcing a 2-all draw away to Highlands Park at Makhulong Stadium in Thembisa.
At FNB Stadium, Pitso “Jingles” Mosimane made history when he guided Mamelosi Sundowns to their first-ever victory over Kaizer Chiefs at the iconic venue. This after the Brazilians narrowly beat the Glamour Boys 2-1 in an action packed clash.
