THE Nedbank Ke Yona Challenge, which is set to take place on Sunday, 9 September at the Makhulong Stadium, in Tembisa, will this week be preluded by a final match day preparation training camp at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria. Leading up to the Nedbank Ke Yona Challenge, the Team Search squad will be hard at work preparing for their match against 2018 Nedbank Cup Champions Free State Stars.
To date, the 16 hopefuls, who have been carefully selected and groomed by renowned coaching experts in Khabo Zondo and Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba, have participated in thrilling friendly games and training matches which have provided the coaches and players with insight into major improvement areas that they will be focusing on during the final training camp.
As Money Experts Who Do Good, Nedbank has found new ways to enhance the experience
for both player and fan alike, for the first time in the history of the Ke Yona Team Search, the bank will provide the public with an opportunity to decide the fate of their favourite players through the highly anticipated Nedbank Ke Yona Draft which will see the final squad potentially scoring professional contracts with PSL clubs.
In previous years, the draft was conducted in the form of a live draw; this year, South Africa’s football loving public will take charge of the drafting by voting the Ke Yona stars into the 16 PSL teams. The public can cast their vote through a USSD system by dialling *120*37238# and following the prompts. Voting opened on Saturday, 25 August 2018 and will close on Saturday 22 September 2018.
“The life-changing prospect of being part of the Ke Yona squad is what has the remaining players beaming with enthusiasm and hope, the same hope that 20-year old Bloemfontein Celtic left-back, Bongani Sam experienced this time last year. These are the kind of opportunities that Nedbank as a responsible financial institution endeavours to secure in order to uplift our players as well as the communities from which they come from through the draft component,” said Tutu Skosana – Nedbank Sponsorship Manager: Football Properties.
The Ke Yona Team has over the years played against Nedbank Cup Champions Kaizer Chiefs in 2013, Orlando Pirates in 2014, Mamelodi Sundowns in 2015 and consecutively played SuperSport United in 2016 and 2017 after Matsatsantsa were crowned victors in both years. The 2018 Nedbank Cup Ke Yona Challenge, will be a first-time experience for Free State Stars after midfielder, Goodman Dlamini netted a great goal which was enough to claim the full honours against Maritzburg United in a 1-0 win during the Nedbank Cup Final earlier this year.
To watch the promising Ke Yona talent on display, the public can tune into SABC 1 every Saturday at 14h00, where they will get an insider’s look into the acclaimed talent search.
