THE Absa Premiership title chase is getting complicated by the day with four clubs on a neck to neck race, WRITES NAKAMPE LEKWADU
This after Mamelodi Sundowns moved to the second position for the first time in the current season following their 2-0 victory over Ajax Cape last night.
Sundowns are now comfortably sitting on the second position with 47 points and they are two points behind log leaders, Cape Town City whose’s fairy-tale continued last night with an epic 3-2 win over Kaizer Chiefs at the Cape Town Stadium to sink their claws on top of the log with 49 points after 25 matches.
As if Chiefs’ failure to secure the all three vital points was not enough, BidVest Wits’ title chase were once more derailed, and this time after they narrowly lost 1-0 to SuperSport United.
If games in hand were points, then we experts would argue that it is not all lost for Wits (third position with 45 points from 23 matches) as they have played two less matches as opposed to City. The same goes to Sundowns who have played two less matches.
Elsewhere Polokwane City hung on to their 6th position on the log with a 3-1 victiory over Golden Arrows in a league match played at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo last night. City are 6th with 34 points from 25 matches.
Meanwhile the league matches continues this evening with relegation threatened, Baroka FC travelling to Orlando Stadium where they have a date with the troubled Orlando Pirates.
The Sea Robbers secured a point the last time they were in a league action match after a 1-all draw against another league strugglers, Highlands Park two weeks ago and they remain 9th on the log with 27 points from 23 matches. Bakgaga (16th position with 20 points from 24 matches) on the other hand will be looking forward for a win in order to frog-jump Highlands Park on the 15th position (for the record, Highlands Park are 15th on the log with 22 points from 25 matches).
Focus will also be at the Moruleng Stadium in North West where the Platinum Stars welcoming Free State Stars. Kick-Off for all the matches is at 7.30pm
