THE latest stage of the 2016 Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup, the sport’s biggest and most exciting amateur tournament, took place at Pearl Valley Golf Club, near Paarl, Cape Town on Thursday March 10.
The singles stableford competition made its second consecutive appearance at the Jack Nicklaus designed Pearl Valley, and it’s third in Cape Town, with 80 players who competed for the one available spot in the showpiece 2016 Grand Finals, to be hosted in Belek, Antalya, Turkey in October of this year. There were prizes for the runner-up and third place, Best Gross and separate men’s and ladies nearest to the pin prizes.
The Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup is enjoying a growing reputation after three hugely successful previous campaigns, with the 2016 Series stet to feature an estimated 7,500 players, all personally-invited by Turkish Airlines.
“We were proud to host the latest 2016 Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup qualifier in Cape Town,” Kenan Ince, General Manager for Turkish Airlines Cape Town, said. “We were excited to welcome everyone to the world class facilities at Pearl Valley. We are sure the players had a day to remember and wish the winner all the best.”
Winners of the Grand Final progress to play in the 2016 Turkish Airlines Open pro-am, while all finalists are to enjoy a seven-night stay in an all-inclusive hotel, two rounds of golf and VIP passes to the Turkish Airlines Open, the $7,000,000 European Tour event, from Thursday to Sunday.
The event is backed by Global Sponsors the Financial Times and Conte of Florence the Official Clothing and Fashion Partner.
Turkish Airlines, which was recently voted Best Airline in Europe for the fifth consecutive year, as well as World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge and World’s Best Business Class Lounge Dining in 2015, launched the World Golf Cup in 2013.
It featured 12 qualifying events and was won by China’s Han Liang. His prize for victory was partnering world number one and 14-time major champion Tiger Woods in the Turkish Airlines Open pro-am. 2015 Johannesburg qualifier, Neill Bam proved successful in the 2015 Grand Final and went on to partner Rory McIlroy in the Turkish Airlines Open pro-am, a truly once in a lifetime opportunity.
