IT is that time of the year when clubs are beginning to sharpen themselves for the hectic 2018/19 season ahead.
With less than a month before kick-off, clubs bosses have been in the market with their huge cheques as they sign players and coaches alike. One such club is newly promoted National First Division (NFD) side, TS Sporting from Mpumalanga which earlier today July 24) announced Benson Mhlongo as their new head coach.
Confirming the news, Sporting charman, Slungu Tobela said the former Orlando Pirates defender turned assistant coach takes the club’s hot seat with immediate effect.
“There is no time to waste as we want to be well prepared for life in our new-found home in the NFD, so Mhlongo’s duties as our head coach start with immediate effect so that he can prepare the club. We don’t want to be one of those clubs which goes to the NFD just to add the numbers and got relegated at the end of the season,” pointed out Thobela who added that they will provide Mhlongo with all the resources needed for him to be successful with the club.
Mhlongo whose football career was sharpened at another semi-professional from Mapulaneng area, Mpumalanga before he could make it big at professional level when he registered his arrival at Mamelodi Sundowns before moving to Pirates said he was very grateful about the opportunity given to him to coach a club that comes from his own province.
Sporting were promoted to the NFD a month ago via the ABC Motsepe League national play-offs which took place in Mankweng.
