Both the Sharks and Cheetahs secured major signings from the Springbok squad on Thursday, adding significant strength to their teams.
SHARKS SECURE RETURN OF GIANT TO KINGS PARK
The Sharks have successfully brought back another Springbok star, Andre Esterhuizen, to their lineup.
Known as “The Giant,” Esterhuizen returns to his former team after spending the last four seasons with Harlequins. Upon his arrival at Kings Park, he will join forces with fellow Springbok Lukhanyo Am to form a formidable centre pairing in the Sharks’ midfield.
The announcement of Esterhuizen’s return to the Sharks was made through the team’s official social media channels, with the official statement citing his decision to move back to South Africa “for family reasons.”
The 29-year-old was part of the Springboks’ victorious 2023 World Cup squad.
CHEETAHS BOLSTER THEIR SQUAD WITH SPRINGBOK ADDITION
In Bloemfontein, the Cheetahs have confirmed the signing of Sbu Nkosi, a widely anticipated move in the rugby world.
The official announcement of Nkosi’s acquisition, who played a crucial role in the Springboks’ successful 2019 World Cup campaign in Japan, was made on Thursday.
Nkosi had been out of action since the termination of his contract with the Bulls, amidst widely publicized off-field challenges. However, the Cheetahs have provided the Springbok with a fresh start in his rugby career.
Before his time with the Bulls, the 28-year-old speedster played for the Sharks from 2016 to 2022. He made his Test debut for the Springboks in 2018 and has since earned 16 caps and scored nine tries.
