Pirates who opened the league season away to the newly promoted Vasco da Gama pulled a 2-1 victory over the Cape side at the packed Cape Town Stadium on Friday night before Ajax Cape Town could emerged 2-0 victors over Bloemfontein Celtic later at the same venue.
In Atteridgeville outside Tshwane at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, Sundowns emerged 2-0 victors over Moroka Swallows on Saturday while Chiefs beat Golden Arrows 2-0 at Rand Stadium on the same day.
Elsewhere BidVest Wits University took the defending champions, SuperSport United when they beat them 3-0 to claim the top position on the log.
The league matches reached the boiling point on Sunday, August 29 with two matches producing a ten goals thriller. At the Pumas Rugby Stadium in eMalahleni, Platinum Stars came from behind twice to beat Mpumalanga Black Aces with AmaZulu winning the KwaZulu-Natal derby when they lashed Maritzburg United 3-2.
Meanwhile Free State Stars were held to a goalless draw by Santos at Botshabelo Stadium in Mangaung on Saturday.
