Ajax and ASD looking forward to retain the Metropolitan's Premier Cup at home

By NAKAMPE LEKWADU

AJAX Cape Town and ASD FC have kept their dream chances of keeping the Metropolitan Under-19 Metropolitan Premier Cup title in the Western Cape after they booked their places in the semi finals.

This after the two sides were made to sweat before they could cruised to the top four of this competition which marks its 23rd year, beating Bloemfontein Celtic and Kaizer Chiefs in the quarterfinals which were played on a soaked pitch today.

Ajax’s road to the semi finals was not an easy one as they had to overcome two PSL sides, first the defending champions, SuperSport United whom they beat in the last 16 before they could brushed aside Bloemfontein Celtic with a narrow 1-0 victory in the quarter finals today. For the record, the Urban Warriors won the competition in 2008 when they lambasted the same Celtic 6-0.

On the other hand another Cape side, ASD FC who will be looking for a cup glory made it through to the semi finals after they took Chiefs by surprise with a 4-3 victory on penalties after the match ended in a 2-2 draw after the regulated time.

Before they could realise their dream to keep the title home, Ajax and ASD will however have to double their effort against two more semi finalists in Stars of Africa, a Gauteng’s Farouk Khan Development team and Komesho from Namibia.

This was Stars of Africa’s first participation in this competition and they have been impressive as they did not lose any match, including their 3-2 victory over Dipetsana of Botswana after extra-time in the quarter finals on their way  to the semi finals, and it will not be surprising to see them going all the way.

Komesho which are coached by Namibia’s national Under-20 team, Ricardo Mannetti cannot be ruled out as they have been impressive as well, and the fact that they booted out last year’s finalists, Baltic Rangers out of the competition whom they beat 2-1 in the quarter finals speaks volume about them.

It remain to be seen as to where will the title go to after tomorrow’s final match which is scheduled for Erica Park in Belhar at 3pm.
