NATIONAL Under-17 team, Amajimbos is in camp in Johannesburg ahead of their tour of Argentina where they will three friendly international matches.
The Solly Luvhengo’s coached side leave for South America on Wednesday, S e p t e m b e r 2 2 9 a m from the OR Tambo International Airport. The trip is part of a bilateral agreement signed between the South Afric an government and Argentine Government’s d e p artments of Sports and Recreation.
The tour will be used to exchange and share key ide as between the Argentine Football Federation, the South African Football Association (S a f a ) and the Sports and R ecreation Ministry of South Africa. There will also be a one and a half day workshop betwee n the three entities which will provide a platform to discuss youth soccer development.
Amajimbos will hold two t raining sessions on Tuesday , S e p t e m b e r 2 1 at the Kempton Park s p o r t s g round. The sessions will be at 9 a m
In South America the squad will be based in Buenos Aires where they will play three friendly matches. They will fac e t he youth teams of Argentino Junior and Boca Juniors on Saturda y , S e p t e m b e r 2 5 and Wednesday, Sept e mber 2 9 respectively. The last assignment will be a friendly international match against the Argentine Un d e r – 1 7 n a tional team to be played on Saturday, October 2 .
L u v h e n g o h a s s i n c e picked 20 players to travel to Argentina and has emphasized that international expos ure as his primary aim for the upcomi ng camp.
“This is a very impo rtant outing and a very crucial one as it will aid the further growth and development of this national team. It will help the boys and give them int ernational exposure that is so much needed by our junior national teams so that by the time t hey get to Bafana Bafana they are used to the rigours of high level competition. This trip is one of many that we have planned for this team after we were knocked out of the African Youth Championship qualifiers so we can aid the boy s with their international careers. We can only hope to come back with great results, even though the purpose is main ly to learn as much as we can from our counterparts who have long been on the international scene,” said Luvhe ngo.
