CHAF POZI is the irresistible beats of South Africa’s hip-hop royalty that will electrify the music-loving masses at the Golden Hour. The sessions, which have now moved to a new Sunday slot, will feature the limitless talent and passion of hip-hop star JR. He’ll be dishing out the stuff that made him an instant household name when he released his debut monster hit ‘Gata le Nna’ in 2008. He went on to release a series of hard-hitting club-bangers, giving the World Cup 2010 vibe an additional shot of energy with the crossover hit, ‘Make the Circle Beega!” JR will be supported at the Soweto version of Amstel Golden Hour by another one of Mzansi’s quality performers, rising urban star AKA! Amongst his accolades is MTV Base’s ‘Brand New Artist’ in December 2010 amongst his credits and he currently holds the top spot on the Metro FM Experience chart show.
This is the first hip-hop act we’ve hosted this year, and we’re excited to see what the performers will bring to the stage! We’re thrilled at the quality of performances we’ve hosted so far. The Soweto sessions of Amstel Golden Hour is firmly on the social calendar of the Joburg music scene!” comments Nomonde Donsa, Amstel Brand Manager. “And now that we’ve moved the event to Sundays, we’re really looking forward to hosting Soweto for the weekend-wind down at Chaf Pozi.” The theme of established stars sharing the stage with up-and-coming artists has run through every Amstel Golden Hour show – showcasing artists who’ve displayed incredible artistry, delivered amazing stage performances and enraptured crowds with their music.
It is also the moment for fans to get closer to the stars and hear their story. As a venue, the Orlando Tower’s Chaf Pozi has delivered the ambiance and laid-back vibe that have contributed to making the Soweto Sessions a non-negotiable monthly ‘must-do’. “The Amstel Golden Hour’s become one of those performance stages that artists now look forward to performing on,” explains JR. “The crowd’s energy, the venue and the vibe really make it something special – I can’t wait to rock the house, it’s going to be off-the-hook – and that’s a promise!!” Indeed, it is exactly this type of performance showcase – between established and emerging talent who have one thing in common – sheer, undeniable quality – that Amstel is keen to foster.
The inaugural show, which featured the explosive combination of Tumi and Aka, alongside Pops Mohamed, made it clear that the Amstel Golden Hour in Soweto is about facilitating the type of showcases that musicians love to participate in, but seldom find the opportunity to.
By locating the series at the iconic landmark, the Orlando Tower’s Chaf Pozi venue, the sessions are placed exactly where the people are – assuring lovers of quality music real access to incredible music. Planned to take place over a year-long period, the sessions are definitely going to be a key feature of the Jozi entertainment circuit.
