Bafana and Springbok did it for Madiba

AUGUST 17, 2013 will go down to South Africa’ historical books as one of the best day in the sport circle.

The day which was celebrated as inaugural of the Nelson Mandela Sports and Culture Day which saw both Bafana Bafana and Springboks playing their respective games at the same venue, something which has never happened in the country.

Playing in front of the fairly crowd fans from both the football and rugby’s rain-bow nation, both the teams did not disappoint with Bafana having dished out their best, beating the 2013’s CAF Orange African Cup of Nation’s runners-up, Burkina Faso 2-0 in an early match before the Springbok could take the excitement to the climax when they walloped the visiting Argentina with 73 goals to 13.

The rugby match between the Springboks and Argentina marked their official opening clash in the Castle Lager Rugby Championships.

 The day was wrapped with a music festival involving the local and international artists.

Meanwhile elsewhere at the Orlando Stadium, Orlando Pirates capped this glorious day with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Zamalek of Egypt during CAF’s Championships. The victory sees the mighty Buccaneers sitting comfortably on top of the log with 7 points.

 

 This after their last week’ sterling performance that saw them took another Egyptian giants, Al Alhly whom they beat 3-0 away.
