BAFANA Bafana needs only three points from their remaining 180 minutes in the field of play to confirm their position in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
This after the Pitso Mosimane’s coached side force an away goalless draw against Egypt in the second leg of AFCON qualifier played at the Cairo Military Academy Stadium this evening.
The results means South Africa are still on top of the Group G with 8 points while the Pharaohs have on the process kissed goodbye their chances to make it in next year’s AFCON competitions which will be co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
This was Bafana’ second draw away after having held Sierra Leone to a goalless draw in October last year while they managed to win two matches, a 2-0 over Niger at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit (last year on September 4) before they could beat Egypt 1-0 at the Coca Cola Park in Johannesburg (March 26).
Bafana who are currently ranked number four on the continent and 38 in the world will have to beat either Niger (second positioned with 6 points) or Sierra Leone (third with 5 points) home whom they clash in the second leg matches later this year.
The match away to Niger will take place on the weekend of 2-4 September. Bafana’s last match will be at home against Sierra Leone on the weekend of 7-9 October.
