The South Africans bowed out of the competition following a 10 – 1 loss to a very strong German side on Wednesday, Sepetember 8 at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago.
Bantwana take on Mexico on Tuesday, September 14 in Trinidad for their final group stage match. Kick off is at 3pm (9pm SA time).
The Germans’ superior ball possession paid off when they scored their opening goal in the 12th minute through Lena Lotzen. Seven minutes later Kyra Malinowski made it two. She managed to score three more in the 29th, 36th and 57th minutes.
The other German goal scorers were Melanie Leupolz with two, as well as Lena Petermann who also rattled the net twice. South Africa’s only goal came from Jermaine Seoposengwe in the 31st minute, but she was unfortunate to score an own goal at the stroke of halftime.
South Africa’s coach Solly Luvhengo congratulated the tough and talented Germans on a fine performance.
