FORMER Finland manager Stuart Baxter was yesterday named coach of the troubled Kaizer Chiefs in succession to sacked Serb Vladimir Vermezovic.
The 58-year-old England-born Baxter will begin a two-year contract in June and faces the daunting challenge of lifting the most successful and popular mighty Amakhosi out of the doldrums.
Chiefs failed to win any of the four league and cup trophies this season and recently suffered four consecutive losses in all competitions for the first time since the club was founded 42 years ago.
Baxter who will take over from care-taker coaches, Doctor Khumalo, Ace Khuse and Arthur Zwane, coached Bafana Bafana in the middle of the previous decade with little success, winning only five of 10 qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup and failing to reach the finals in Germany.
Baxter has been since introduced to the rest of players and technical team and he is expected to attend the club’s league match against Ajax Cape Town tomorrow night at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo.
