BREAKING NEWS: Springbok Player Set to Depart from Leicester Tigers

Another World Cup champion from the Springboks is on the lookout for a new team, following the announcement of his departure from the Leicester Tigers in England.

Leicester Tigers have officially stated that Springbok and World Cup victor Jasper Wiese will conclude his stint with the team after the 2023/24 season.

Wiese, who joined the club in the 2020/21 season and quickly became a fan favorite, also earned his status as a South African international and Rugby World Cup champion during his time with the Tigers.

After being named Player of the Match in the 21/22 Premiership Final against Saracens, Wiese plans to pursue his career abroad. Meanwhile, the Tigers will still boast World Cup winner Handre Pollard in their ranks.

Reflecting on his experience at the club, the 28-year-old Springbok remarked, “I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment at the club and will continue to devote myself fully to my team and teammates.”

“This club and my family have shared special times here, and we look forward to creating more memories this season.”

Leicester Tigers General Manager Richard Wilks commented, “We are extremely proud of Jasper’s growth both as a player and individual at Leicester Tigers. Jasper arrived as a relatively unknown player from the Cheetahs and is leaving us as a 27-times-capped Springbok and a Rugby World Cup champion. This is a testament to his dedication, as well as to the coaches and staff at Tigers who have played a significant role.”

“Jasper is a cherished member of our team, and his absence will be felt, but the dynamics of professional sports and our global game often lead players to seek new challenges. He leaves with our best wishes, and he and his family will always be welcome here.”

“Our squad is well-positioned for the future, and our focus, along with Jasper’s, is on making this season a memorable one for Leicester Tigers.”
