THE 2013 edition of the Carling League of Champions got underway last Saturday at the Chesterville Sports Ground, Chesterville in KwaZulu-Natal.
Eight teams from various parts of the East Coast region logged heads in an attempt to book themselves a place in the regional play-offs and hopefully win the all expenses paid for trip to Johannesburg.
Among those was Blue FC – from Hammarsdale near Pietermaritzburg, the team represented Jozini Tavern for the second time in a row.
The Carling League of Champions will be hosted nationwide in the next three months -The tournament comprise of 48 amateur football teams, who are selected from top performing taverns based on the Carling Black Label sales, over a set period of time.
From the 6 regions; Egoli Region, East Coast Region, North Region, Central Region, Eastern Cape Region and Western Cape Region, teams will take part in the first phase of the competition known as the district play – offs. The four top teams from each district finals will then proceed to the Regional Play-offs to determine regional winners.
The six regional champions will culminate the league in the grand final weekend on July 20 and 21 at the Nike Football Centre, Soweto.
An overall winning team of the Carling League of Champions 2013 will win a trip to see the two Soweto giants; Orlando Pirates and Kaizer at the FNB Stadium on July 27th at the expense of Carling Black Label.
