GOLD Reef City has a real treat lined up for lovers of jazz, R&B and Soul music.
Divine soul man Frank McComb joins popular local newcomers, The Muffinz on
a journey in the annual events leading up to the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz
Festival.
Aptly titled The Road to Joy of Jazz, these events give music lovers a taste of
what will be on offer at the festival. Both acts have been recognised for their
original musical styles so audiences will have lots to smile about.
This special collaborative performance will take place on 6 April at the
Lyric Theatre and will no doubt be one of the hottest tickets in town so
book now to avoid disappointment.
Frank McComb grew up in Cleveland, America and is widely recognised for
his virtuoso piano and organ work that has made him an underground
favourite on the soul and jazz scenes and a highly sought after session
player.
He has recorded and worked with many of the music industry’s best known
personalities including Frankie Beverly & Maze, Teena Marie, Chaka Khan,
Lalah Hathaway, Terri Lynn Carrington, Phyllis Hyma, Teddy Pendergrass and
even Prince.
McComb has performed all over the world in cities like London, Amsterdam,
Milan, France and Japan. Through his own music company, Boobeescoot Music,
McComb records, produces, packages and sells his own music to the public.
He has released several albums including Love Stores, The Truth and
Straight from the Vault to name only three.
Joining this legend on the stage at The Lyric will be exciting new comers
to the music scene, The Muffinz, who although they are based in the arty
hub of Melville, come from all corners of the African continent.
This eclectic group is made up of five young musicians who have broken the
mould of rappers and house DJs by playing real instruments really well,
mixing their instrumental talents with their equally impressive vocal
abilities.
Since making their debut at a competition at Cool Runnings in Melville the
group has developed a loyal following who have fallen for their unusual
mix of musical styles and genres which come together to give them a truly
unique sound.
Although from different parts of the world, The Road to Joy of Jazz,
undoubtedly brings together two of the most distinctive musical acts
currently around, in one dazzling show.
The show takes place on 6 April, at 7pm at Gold Reef City's Lyric
Theatre. Tickets are priced between R250 and R300 and are available
through Computicket or at The Lyric Box Office on 011 248 5000.
