KAIZER Chiefs and Orlando Pirates avoided each other in the semifinals of the MTN 8 which will be played over two legs.
This after the two Soweto giants we pitted against Ajax Cape Town and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively during the draw which was conducted this evening at the Premier Soccer League offices.
Chiefs earned their passage to the semis of the Wafa Wafa tournament after their narrowly beat BideVest Wits 2-1 via goals by new signee, Bernard Parker and Mandla Masango with Pirates winning 1-0 over Santos.
With Ajax who last season failed to win the league title in their last match reached the final match of the competition two season ago were they were embarrassed by Golden Arrows with a 6-0 drubbing, it remain to be seen if the Urban Warriors will get it right this time around by beating Chiefs and go all the way to their second final match of this competition in three seasons. For the record, Ajax walloped SuperSport United 5-2 in the quarterfinals of the competition last Friday on their way to these semifinals.
Unlike their opponents who are the competition’s defending, Sundowns who beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 to reach to the semis will be looking forward to beat Pirates to reach to their first-ever MTN 8’s final match which will see the winner taking home a cool R8 million.
