Cosmos back on top

Jomo Cosmos consolidated their position at the top of the NFD Inland Stream after they beat FC AK 2-0 at the Makhulong Stadium on Saturday evening.

Goals either side of the half time break by Souleymane Diabate ensured maximum points for Jomo Sono’s charges. Diabate first struck in the 39th minute of the match, before completing his break in the 67th minute.

The victory meant that Ezenkosi maintained a slender one point lead over closest rivals, Pretoria University.

Tukkies have had a successful trip to Ermelo for their away fixture against Batau.

The match was an ill-tempered affair with referee, Deidre Mitchell dishing out 8 yellow cards.

The visitors made all the running in the opening stanza and were duly rewarded with two goals in this time.

The experienced Joseph Mthombeni notched up a brace with strikes in the 29th and 43rd minute to give Pretoria University the ascendancy.

And despite Batau, pulling one back just after the hour mark through Eddy Mathonsi, they could not find the equalizer and it was Tukkies that grabbed all three points coming out victors by two goals to one and thus keeping pressure on log leaders, Jomo Cosmos.

For Batau, they face a near mission impossible if they are to avoid relegation this season.

Elsewhere, Witbank Spurs moved to third on the standings with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Black Leopards in Witbank, while Dynamos and United FC played out to a one-all draw at the Giyani Stadium.-PSL website
