Eddie Jones Considers Cheslin Kolbe as the Perfect Player

New Japan head coach Eddie Jones has expressed his desire for more players like Springbok winger Cheslin Kolbe in his team.

Cheslin Kolbe, a two-time Rugby World Cup champion and one of the sport’s highest-paid players, is currently playing for Tokyo Sungoliath.

The 30-year-old speedster previously achieved success with French Top 14 club Toulouse, winning the European Champions Cup, and also had a period with Toulon.

Kolbe was a standout player at the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, and Jones is encouraging his players to emulate Kolbe’s style and skills.

Jones praised Kolbe, saying, “He’s as strong as an ox, as fast as a cheetah, and as elusive as a ninja – that’s the potential of Japanese players.”

He sees Kolbe as an excellent role model, stressing the need to find players who can mirror his abilities, believing that such talent exists.
