Engen join hands for charity

Engen and the Children’s Hospital Trust, the fundraising arm of the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital have joined hands in hosting a Charity Golf Challenge on 9 December at the King David Golf Course in Bellville where 100% of funds raised will go towards the Hospital’s world renowned Burns Unit.

Approximately 2.4 million homes in South Africa use paraffin and the usage thereof has directly contributed to accidents resulting in a child becoming a burns’ victim. The Burns Unit treats approximately 3500 children with burns every year. 1000 are inpatients, more than 1000 visit the ward as outpatients and over 1500 patients visit the outpatient department burns clinics annually.

During the past 5 years, it has been Engen’s pledge to help improve the lives of the young victims who are sadly directly affected by burn injuries. Since 2008 and through various sponsorship initiatives in support of its R 1 million by 2010, Engen has raised in excess of R890, 000 to date.

Engen Group Sponsorship Manager, Brad Bergh has this to say: ‘The association with the Burns Unit at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital has been a long and proud one for Engen Petroleum and we are again extremely pleased to be able to support this much needed facility in the Western Cape through a host of fundraising initiatives. Engen’s Charity Golf Challenge will be a fitting finale to our “R 1 million by 2010” sponsorship programme and we take this opportunity to thank business in Cape Town and the broader Engen family for all their support in making this inaugural event such a success. We look forward to the Charity Golf Challenge becoming a respected fundraising event on the local golfing calendar in years to come.’

‘We invite all in business to join hands in supporting this worthy cause and help the Burns Unit to continue providing cutting edge medical care for those young lives in such desperate need,’ says Bergh.
