Ex-Springbok Appointed as New Coach of SWD Eagles

Zane Kirchner, a former Springbok, has been named the new head coach of the South Western Districts Eagles, as confirmed by the George-based franchise.

The ex-fullback, who has 31 Test caps and has played for teams like Griquas, Bulls, Leinster, Dragons, and Bristol Bears during his career, is succeeding Anton Moolman in the role.

Kirchner previously served as the assistant coach under Moolman. In a statement shared on the SWD Eagles’ social media, the 39-year-old expressed his enthusiasm for the new challenge.

“Understanding the significant responsibility, I am fully aware of the challenges ahead and what they entail,” Kirchner remarked.

“This role presents a chance to contribute positively and to help each player realize their full potential in becoming their best selves.

“I am grateful for the faith and trust placed in me. I also want to thank the wider rugby community, both locally and globally, for their good wishes, encouraging words, and ongoing support.”
