Geely comes in handy for first time buyers

By FOCUS REPORTER

THE Geely LC looks like a panda bear and it has been designed to cope with the tough habitat of the city – boasting small dimensions to help it negotiate the crowded landscape with ease.

This is a car that is going to be considered by first-time buyers, students, and those seeking a vehicle geared at simple, economical motoring in a city environment.

Styling is a factor that certainly stands out for the LC. It’s not going to scare anyone off like an aggressive muscle car – that’s for sure. The LC is a dainty car. It’s got an adorable face – with those large headlamps and that grille, and at the rear, the lights seem to resemble the paw print of a panda. The designers of the LC seemingly wanted to create something with cute appeal; and they have succeded.

Pricing is another area where thr Geely LC will appeal to customers – it really is one of the cheapest cars out there, starting off at R79 999 for the GS model and ending at R89 999 for the GT model. What is impressive, is that despite the price, none of these models go without assuring safety features. All three versions are equipped with anti-lock braking system, as well as electronic brake-force distribution. According to the press release, it is the first Chinese car to drive away with a five-star CN-CAP crash test rating. It’s also got a speed warning, like you would find on more expensive cars: an audible alert sounds whenever you exceed 120km/h.

The panda theme is carried on the the interior too. You’ll notice traits from the bear in the design of the dahsboard and centre console, instrument dials and air vents. Constrasting colours employed in the LC, are black and cream. The upper section of the dashboard is black, while Geely said that the bottom part was finished in a cream colour, to accentuate spaciousness and be easy on the eye.

Powering the Geely LC is a 1.3-litre engine, with four cylinders and 16 valves. It produces 63-kilowatts and 110 newton metres of torque, and it is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

Peace of mind comes in the form of a 36-month/100 000-kilometre factory warranty, with roadside assistance from the AA. There are also service plans which can be ordered as an optional extra, from around R4 150 to R6 950. The Geely LC can be had in several colours, including white, silver, yellow, red, blue, gold orange, green and black.
