THE popular Coca Cola Craven Week got off to a good start in Polokwane’s Peter Mokaba Stadium, Limpopo with teams registering resounding victories.
The competition which is in its 50th year anniversary and which is being played in Limpopo for the very first time saw the hosts, Limpopo’s Blue Bulls starting off on a poor note after they lost 31-26 to the high-ridding Boland in the last match of the day.
The match between Limpopo and Border was the fourth and the one which wrapped the first day’s proceedings.
Earlier on in the first match, the visiting Zimbabwe overpowered the Griquas with 35 goals to 17 before Border could beat another visiting team, Namibia by 38 to 20 in the second match.
The third match saw Western Province easily sailed to a 40-24 victory over Pumas with Blue Bulls of Tswane beating KwaZulu-Natal by 46-22.
This 20-teams tournament enters its second day tomorrow with EP CD taking on Leopards in the first match at 9.30am, then followed by Griquas CD testing its strength against Border CD in the second match at 11am.
The rest of tomorrows’ fixtures are: Valke v Griffons (12.30pm), Lions v SWD (2pm) and EP v Free State (3.30pm)
