Injury Concern: Kagiso Rabada Returns Home from IPL

Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada returned home carrying a slight injury and is currently being closely monitored by the medical team.

Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada was sent home following an injury scare during the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The 28-year-old Punjab Kings bowler was ruled out of the franchise’s last two IPL matches. Rabada returned home from the IPL on Sunday evening with an infection in the soft tissue of a lower limb. Cricket South Africa (CSA) stated that Rabada is still expected to be available for the T20 World Cup.

He played 11 matches for the Punjab Kings, taking 11 wickets at an economy rate of 8.85. With PBKS ruled out of the playoffs, Rabada was allowed to travel back to South Africa, where he consulted a specialist regarding his injury scare.

In a statement, CSA said the bowler was being “closely monitored by the medical team.”

PROTEAS STAR PLAYER KAGISO RABADA’S INJURY NOT SERIOUS

Rabada’s preparation for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup will not be affected, CSA added.

The Proteas squad for the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA was announced two weeks ago. The selection caused some controversy as Rabada was the only black African player in the 15-man squad. Rabada’s injury concern is likely a precaution to ensure the fast bowler is not overworked.
