KAIZER Chiefs have finally achieved their “Reclaiming the Glory.” dream after winning the 2012/13’s Absa Premiership title without kicking the ball in their remaining two matches.
This after their closest rivals, Platinum Stars and Orlando Pirates suffered defeats during today’s league matches. Dikwena who were the main threat to Chiefs’ title dream were taken by surprise by Golden Arrows who beat them 2-1 away at the Princess Magogo Stadium with the mighty Buccaneers succumbed a last minute defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns at the Orlando Stadium in another league match.
The outcome gives Chiefs a derseving league champion crown which has deserted them for the past eight years, and this despite the fact that they still have to play two matches. The mighty Amakhosi are currently on top of the log with 56 points from 28 matches and they have an advantage of a better goal difference of +28 with Platinum Stars on second with 53 points with +18 goals and for them (Stars) to win the league will have to win their last match against SuperSport United who are desperate for the maximum point to cement their top 8 finish by beating them with more than 11 goals to nothing while at the same time praying that Chiefs losing their last two matches against SuperSport United on Wednesday night in Polokwane against and University of Pretoria away in Nelspruit’s Mbombela Stadium on May 18.
As for Pirates who won the league three times back to back their lost to Sundowns today which was the second one after last week’s 1-0 drubbing by Ajax Cape Town was the last straw to their title defence dream.
In another league results from today’s matches, Cape Town clubs, Ajax Cape Town and Chippa United beat their relegation blues when they forced draws against their opponents. The Urban Warriors played to a 1-1 draw away to Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium with the Chilly Boys also forcing a 2-2 draw at their Phillipi’s home turf against University of Pretoria.
The outcome, and of course not the good one for another relegation threatened side, Black Leopards of Limpopo saw Ajax maintaining their 14th position with 28 points from 29 matches with Chippa still hanging on to the 15th position with 25 points from the same number of games. It remain to be seen if Leopards could frog-jump the two Cape sides in their last two matches, starting with the first one this coming Wednesday against the wounded Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium before they could wrap their season campaign away to Free State Stars on May 18.
The rest of today’s league results are: BidVests Wits 3 v AmaZulu 1, Bloemfontein Celtic 2 v Free State Stars 2 and SuperSport United 0 v Moroka Swallows 0.
