Kallis injured while Tsotsobe sets record straight

Protea’s all-rounder, Jacques Kallis may have to get some rest for a rib injury ahead of the Cricket World Cup warm-up against Zimbabwe in India on Saturday, February 12.

A statement issued by the team officials stated that care was the key word despite assurance from the experienced Kallis that he was fit and readyfor action after being injured last month in the drawn Test against India at Newlands.

Another concern was fast bowler Dale Steyn who is impressing in form and ranked number one in the world at Test level, confirmed there was no need to panic after being involved in a hit-and-run car accident last weekend in Cape Town.

The Proteas left for India yesterday despite a low turnout by media and public when compered to their previous tournaments where they showed determination and courage to reach the semi finals three times and the quarterfinals once in five appearances.

Team captain Graeme Smith has faith and believes that good communications and team effort could boost their confidence to get a chance to reach the first international Cricket Council tournament victory.

Meanwhile, rising star Lonwabo Tsotsobe has hit back at critics who labeled the team as a “choker” claiming that they have repetitively failed when it comes to the critical situation, most recently as 2009 Champions Trophy hosts when the Proteas did not get past the first round.

He said, “I feel, if you really support your team, you don’t go around calling them names. In saying that, I understand that people have feelings, that it’s their country and they love it and they want success, but one thing is clear, we’re always giving our best.

This comes after Tsotsobe achieved career best rankings in the series against India when the latest ICC Reliance ODI rankings were released.
