FORMER SuperSport United’s Daine Klate started a new life at Orlando Pirates on a good note when he scored the winning goal as the mighty Buccaneers ejected Santos out of the MTN 8 with a 2-1 defeat on Sunday. The influential Klate was on fire throughout the match, forming a deadly combination with Dikgang “DK” Mabalane and Isaac Chansa in the middle of the park, much to the delight of Pirates’ strong supporters at the almost packed Orlando Stadium.Chansa could have put Pirates in the lead as early as the 7th minutes after he connected with Klate’s beautiful cross, but the Zambian-born star’s header went astray.
Chansa however made it right in the 19th minute when he slotted home, beating the People’s Team goalkeeper, Tshepo Motshoeneng to the top right hand corner.
Pirates’ joy lasted only for 15 minutes as Santos fought back and capitalised from a foolish mistake by the home side defenders which resulted in Jurie Bassie scoring an equaliser in the 34th minutes to force the game into 1-1 by the break.
The day however belong to Pirates as they came back strongly in the second half, and it came as no surprise when Klate scored the winning goal in the 62nd minute. This after the former national Under-23 star connected a well taken corner kick by Teko “General” Modise to seal the Sea Robbers’ victory
