THE Gauteng regional elimination, leading up to the 17th World Golfers Championship for amateur golfers, was welcomed by enthusiastic entrants who arrived at the Bryanston Country Club in high spirits and ready to put their golfing skills to the test.

After a challenging, but exhilarating day on the course, Dale Hayes Golf Events, announced the winners who will represent Gauteng in the national finals as Jean Pierre le Roux and Andre Linde Horne in the 0 – 5 flighting, Martin Camm Dixon and Andrew Randall in the 6 – 10 flighting, Zane Oberholzer and Kumalan Munsamy in the 11 – 15 flighting, Hycinth Sthembiso Vezi and Gontse Dioka in the 16 – 20 flighting and Lara Oberholzer and Ivan Stevens in the 21 – 25 flighting.

The Gauteng team will now move onto the next stage of the competition where they will compete at the SA Finals from September 26-28 at Zimbali Country Club in KwaZulu-Natal for an opportunity to wear the World Golfers Championship blazer for South Africa.

Commenting on the Gauteng regional elimination, Craig Clay-Smith, spokesperson for World Golf Events South Africa, said, “We would like to thank all the entrants for their participation and enthusiasm. The advantage of the regional eliminations is that entry is not limited to the province you reside in. Any interested amateur golfer who missed the Gauteng regional elimination or did not win a position in the team, can still enter the remaining two regional eliminations taking place on September 3 at Zebula Golf Estate in Limpopo and on the 13th of September at Bloemfontein Golf Club.”

The World Golfers Championship, gives all amateur golfers over the age of 16 years and with an official handicap, the opportunity to not only experience the thrill of an international golfing championship and the dream of winning a world golfing title, but also the opportunity to meet and forge friendships with amateur golfers from all over the world. The first World Final will be hosted in South Africa this year and will be played across four of KwaZulu-Natal’s premier golf courses in October.
