SPORTS Minister Fikile Mbalula congratulated South Africa’s Olympic team today for bagging three gold medals at the London Olympics.
“We are optimistic that a lot more medals will be counted in our favour,” he said after returning from the Games.
“Everyone at the Team South Africa house is truly motivated by the wins of the three. They have truly injected a dose of motivation to the other athletes. With this kind of fire we will be at the podium again.”
The men’s lightweight four rowing team — Sizwe Ndlovu, Matthew Brittain, John Smith and James Thompson — clinched gold today, adding to medals already won by swimmers Cameron van der Burgh and Chad le Clos.
“We are proud of the four young [rowers] who made our flag to rise above all and our national anthem to be sung louder,” Mbalula said in a statement.-www.sabc.co.za
