ORGANISERS of the annual Metropolitan Premier Cup in Cape Town have expressed their disappointment following the withdrawal of defending champions, Komesho from this year’s competition.
Tournament director, PJ Williams has confirmed that the Namibian team which won the competition last year after they beat African Soccer Development (ASD) 3-2 in the final match of the competition to lift the title.
“We are obviously saddened when the news about Komesho’s withdrawal from the competition were broken to us by the Namibian Football Association. We are however appreciates the association’s understanding that the club teams are eligible to participate after they allowed Komesho FC to honour our invitation last year,” said Williams.
Williams has since confirmed Orlando Pirates’ participation in this year’s competition which is scheduled for 4-9 April at the usual venue, Erica Park, Belhar in Cape Town.
Apart from Komesho, other clubs which came from outside South Africa in this tournament last year include South Nottingham from England, Dipetsana (Botswana), Bahlabani (Lesotho) and Young Warriors (Zimbabwe).
