HOER Tegniese Skool Louis Botha from Free State and Steinkof of Northern Cape get their campaign in the Metropolitan Under-16 Cup in the Eastern Cape off to a good start after they registered some convincing victories this morning.
Louis Botha who are making their debut in this competition beat North West’s Sol Plaatjie 4-0 in a one sided clash during the match which took place at the Duncan village’s Gompo Sports Complex with Steinkof lambasting Belgravia 5-1 from North West.
Defending champions, Umqhele from KwaZulu-Natal also started their title defense campaign on a good note, beating the hosts, Thanga 2-1, much to the disappointment of the local fans. It was however not a train smash for the Eastern Cape fans after their other representative, Malcommes managed to put back smiles on their faces with a 2-1 victory over Limpopo’s Hudson Ntswa’nwisi High School.
Favourites, Rosina Sedibane from Gauteng who at some stage represented the country in Turkey in the similar competition while it was still sponsored by another company had their hopes of starting on a good dashed away when they were held to a goalless draw by Rietvale from Northern Cape while their fellow Gauteng side, Sijabulile went down 2-1 to Western Cape’s Robinvale.
Eighteen schools from the nine provinces, two per province marks its second year, and which is being played under the umbrella of the South African Schools Football Association (SASFA) will come to an end on Sunday, September 26 where in an overall winner will be decided. The winner will go on to represent South Africa during the International Schools Federation in Brazil in April next year.
