THE province of Western Cape has four clubs in the National First Division after Milano United earned promotion to this division.
This after the Theo Hempe’s coached side registered a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Soshanguve Shinning Stars today in their last group match of Vodacom League’s 14 edition national play-offs played at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo.
Hempe was over the moon after their achievement which saw them also booked their place in the final match scheduled for Sunday at the Seshego Stadium outside Polokwane, saying: “This is one great achievement for us which we never thought will happened after losing 80 percent of our key players to the other clubs at the end of last season. And today’s achievement is indeed a reward by the players whom we have shown trust in them when we roped them to be in our structure when we rebuilt the team around them at the beginning of the season,” said Hempe.
Milano showed their determination to win promotion from their first match which saw them beat Batau FC 3-0 before they could turned the heat on Morester Jeug and Shinning Stars with a 5-0 and 1-0 drubbings.
Other clubs from the Western Cape in the NFD are Santos (recently relegated from the Absa Premiership), FC Cape Town and Vasco da Gama.
The Western Cape based side will play either Baroka FC of Limpopo or Roses United (Free State) in the final match. Baroka are second on their group (Group A) with 7 points after they beat Morester Jeug 4-0 this afternoon while Roses are on top of the log with 9 points after their deserved 2-0 victory over Maritzburg City in another match played this afternoon. The two sides face each other in their last group match tomorrow.
