Modise claws his way back to the national team

By AMOGELANG RAMELA

THE prodigal son, Teko Modise has been recalled back to the senior national team, Bafana Bafana Pitso Mosimane included him in the team to face Niger.

Modise who has been out of the team for a while was today included in the 24 member-team that will face Niger in the second leg of the AFCON qualifier. The match is scheduled for September 4 at the Stade General Seyni-Kountche.

Bafana coach, Pitso Mosimane has defended his decision to recall Modise, saying: “We can’t just develop players and destroy them. We are all aware that Modise is an experienced player and his current form at club level is outstanding.”

Mosimane will however go to this must win match without three key players such as captain Steven Pienaar , Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Davide Soma and Kgisho Dikgacoi who are still nursing injuries.

Great challenge to this match is playing away and the feel the excitement as well as zeal are not the same, but to this Mosimane say that he is prepared to ensure that the team plays well with the same spirit, mentality and moral they will use when they play in Cairo. “We need to be armed, and keep our heads high and don’t lose the focus, although there is so much to sacrifice like practice time because of travel time. And we should not over train the boys.”  Said Mosimane.

Bafana are set to assemble at the Royal Marang Sports Complex in Rustenburg this coming Sunday where they will be training until they depart for Niger on September  2.
