Munster Frustrated with Leinster’s Pursuit of Springbok Player

Munster is reportedly upset about Leinster’s recruitment of Springbok star RG Snyman, a move they consider to be highly opportunistic.

Graham Rowntree, Munster’s coach, expressed his shock upon learning that Snyman would be joining Leinster next season. He had anticipated Snyman would move abroad after Munster failed to meet the player’s salary expectations. Instead, Leinster, their major rival in Ireland and the United Rugby Championship (URC), secured his services.

Rowntree acknowledged the realities of professional rugby, noting Munster’s inability to extend Snyman’s contract, which allowed Leinster to quickly capitalize on the opportunity.

The Munster coach was particularly surprised to see Snyman staying in Ireland. He mentioned he was unaware of Snyman’s exact destination, with discussions of him possibly joining Bath or returning to South Africa.

Rowntree revealed that Munster couldn’t offer Snyman a new contract, but he has no doubts about the player’s dedication for the rest of the season. He said he informed Snyman in early November about the contract situation and soon after, news of his move to Leinster emerged. Rowntree emphasized that while it’s challenging, they have to accept it and focus on moving forward. He clarified that it wasn’t a matter of being outbid by Leinster; Munster simply had nothing to offer, which he accepts as part of the business. He concluded by saying he has other pressing matters to consider than this issue.
