PROTEA in Soweto was buzzing with excitement when the young boys from Naledi academy were crowned the under 13 Poroza champions, after beating Zafios 1-0 at Reashuma ground.
The first half saw both teams struggling with their final touches when neither team could not get penetrate the goalkeepers.
The two teams kept spectators on their feet with excitement when they delivered a thrilling match.
The Naledi academy boys showed determination and that they were the hungriest team when Kgotso Shoba scored the winning goal 10minutes after the second half.
Their opponents failed to level the matters after numerous struggles to get past the Naledi defense.
“I am grateful for this opportunity, it feels good to score the winning
goal, my family will be happy to see my medal,” said the 13year old rubbing the medal with excitement.
The two day tournament hosted by The Great Poroza (Protea) Sports Development
Academy, which consists of eight teams taking part was established by Goitsemang Sesinye when he saw the need to nature such talent at an early age for future players who will form part of the national team and do well considering the recent struggles Bafana Bafana is facing.
Sandile Gama aslo founding member said the tournament is to recognise talent and groom it.
“The tournament is a way of identifying and developing talent, we need to
groom the kids at an early age for them to be expects in the field years to come, we hope this motivates them to never stop playing soccer and hope they see it as a way in furthering their dreams as professional players.”
The top goal scorer of the tournament went to Tiisetso ‘Mchini’ Magano who scored four goals.
Player of the tournament went to Sello ‘Jomo’ Khaila who showed great skills not only as a striker but a team player.
