NATIONAL Under-23 team’s campaign in the qualifying matches of the All Africa Games (AAG) got off to a good start with an away 4-1 victory over Angola.
This first leg qualifying match on Friday at the Cidadela Stadium was the first official match for the newly appointed Shakes Mashaba.
Mashaba’s boys have demonstrated great character considering that preparations were less than ideal with players arriving intermittently in camp, however the coach was confident of victory before the team departed for Angola on Thursday.
“We are going to put up a good fight against the Angolans despite playing away from home. We are taking this match seriously and I will not allow any room for complacency in our approach to the Friday match,” said Mashaba at the time.
In Angola, the South Africans were in devastating form with Themba Zwane grabbed a brace, while Masibusane Zongo and Riaan Eugene scored the other two.
South Africa is taking a healthy 4-1 lead into the All Africa games second leg encounter scheduled for this coming Saturday at the Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton.
