NFD: Thanda back in the title chase mix

THANDA Royal Zulu are back in the chase for the NFD league title and the Richards Bay side is just two points behind log leaders University of Pretoria.

Tuks has 43 points; Rovers 42 and Thanda are on 41 after their resounding 3-0 away victory against United FC this past Wednesday. With only six games to go neither side can afford to slip up and with the number two side taking on Thanda, someone will.

Thanda welcome the red-hot Blackburn Rovers to the Richards Bay Sports Stadium on Saturday night.

“We know what a win would do for us, we know what’s at stake and we have the belief,” said TRZ defender and Captain Asanda Mvalo. “It’s like a cup final, someone must win.”

Tuks will take on Sivutsa Stars also on Sunday at the Absa Tuks Stadium. Stars are in 1th place with 26 points, just three more than bottom side Atlie FC who has the same points as Dynamos and Black Aces.

“They are planning to stay where they are and we playing for our lives, said Dynamos player Godfrey Nobula. “Well we both playing for something but I think we are hungrier.”

Dynamos face Chippa United on Friday night at the Giyani Stadium which kicks off the weekend’s fixtures.

On Saturday the beleaguered Black Aces face a competent FC AK who after a very slow start to the season is now sitting in the mid table.

“We can’t afford to lose or draw any more games,” said injured Aces midfielder Marawaan Bantam. “I’m behind the team all the way and will show my support by cheering them on. We have the players and the desire to win this,” said the former Santos linchpin.

FC Cape Town welcome Carara Kicks to the NNK Rugby Stadium and on the other side of town Vasco Da Gama take on United FC.

“I’m ready, it’s just up to the coach,” says Vasco midfielder Zeka Karkee. “I was unfit after the injuries but now I can feel I am ready. I’ve trained well and am prepared, so hopefully I will start.”

NFD rookies Atlie are taking on Witbank Spurs who need a win just to make it safe, and in QwaQwa African warriors face Bay United, another team trying to escape relegation. Warriors are comfortable in sixth place with 36 points, but with everyone trying to catch everyone else victory is still a must.

All games kickoff at 3pm except for the Dynamos match which kicks off at 8pm
