Bafana Coach

PITSO Mosimane is not guaranteed an automatic position to coach Bafana Bafana.This was said by the South African football Association (Safa) president, Kirsten Nematandani on Thursday, July 1 in a press conference which was to clarify that Mosimane is not yet officially appointed as the head coach, but he is a possible candidate for the position although he is still to undergo go on a process before they can appoint him as the head coach.

 

“The association took a resolution in 2007 when they appoint Carlos Alberto Parreira that a South African-born coach will be his understudy of which he will take over when his (Parreira)’s contract come to an end,” said Nematandani who also confirmed that Safa stand by its word to appoint a local coach.He added that: “The association has appointed a technical committee to assess Mosimane’s and come up with a report if whether he is ready and competent to be the head coach.”Nematandani said the decision to appoint the technical committee which is headed by Fanyana Shiburi is to assess Mosimane, and basically check if he is ready to take the team forward.The technical team which is expected to have completed its task to assess Mosimane comprises of Jomo Sono, Ted Dumitru, Harold Legodi and Simon Ngomane.The technical committee will also ensure that the association’s technical programmes for national team players are clearly understood by all technical staff of the Association and that the Association’s strategic objectives for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2014 FIFA World Cup are achieved.Should he be appointed, Mosimane’s first assignment will be to guide Bafana against a west African team still to be confirmed in a friendly international match scheduled for August 11.

This match will form part of the team’s preparations for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations which will see Bafana taking on Niger in September.
