THE Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation and PACOFS (Performing Arts Centre of the Free State) have again collaborated, as part of the MACUFE aftercare programme to host the Tsoho Drama and Dance Community Festival which started last weekend.

The 81 participants were chosen amongst hundreds of talented hopefulls who auditioned from five Free State Districts around the province. The successful

artists are currently going through workshops where they are mentored by professional artists.

The idea of the festival came after PACOFS held a successful script and film writers festival two months ago, where the selected writers are busy with their scripts and films assited by their mentores.

PACOFS Human Resource manager Rolihlahla Alexandra said “the aim of the festival is to identify talent in Dance and Drama, this will be a platform where they will express themselves and have a chance to be part of other festivals like the Grahamstown festival.”

“They all worked hard to be here, so we hope they give it their best and take this opportunity to grow as individual artists,we also hope to come up with one strong group to feature in next year’s MACUFE,” he added.

The two day festival is open to members of the community to attend for free and will be held at the PACOFS building this Friday and Saturday.

“As an artist it is a great opportunity for me to showcase my talent, my group was chosen from the Betlehem disrtict, we did a drama titled Living Secret, where we showcased some of the secrets in our famillies,” said 22 year old Mapula Radebe.

Clayton Sello Seboloa, was chosen all the way from kroonstad to be part of the festival. He expressed his excitement saying that the festival as big as such has never reached Kroonstad. “I will be introduced to other concepts of drama that I wasn’t aware of, it is through such networking that we grow,” said Clayton.

He also expanded on ignorance in his community, “Through my drama, I ensure that I clear out the waves of ignorance in my community and henceforth driving the messages of being knowledgeable and informed.”
