Pitso announces team to face Burkina Faso

By FOCUS REPORTER

BAFANA Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane has announced a 23-man squad to face Burkina Faso in an international friendly match which will take place at the Coca Cola Park.

The match takes place on August 10 at 8.15pm, and it is expected to help fine-tune the squad ahead of the crucial 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger away in September.

Mosimane has kept the core of the team that did duty against Egypt in the return leg of the 2012 AFCON qualifier played in Cairo almost two months ago.

He has also recalled midfielders Steven Pienaar, Thulani Serero and Thanduyise Khuboni as well as defender Bongani Khumalo, who all missed the last match through injury even though Pienaar travelled with the team to Egypt but could not play.

“Those are very good news in that we will have all our players back, which means we will have a very strong team to take on Burkina Faso as we are building towards Niger. But it will be a difficult game in that most of our players are not really match fit as some come off from injuries whilst most of them are just completing their pre-season training.  This match is a continuation of what we did in the goalless draw against Egypt, more so because we have a very short camp so there is not much to do,” said Mosimane.

Just like Bafana Bafana, Burkina Faso have also dropped two places in the FIFA world rankings and are now in position 39, but remain fourth on the continent.

“This clash is important in that it will give us a good chance to prepare thoroughly for the match against Niger. Burkina Faso is a West African side with the same style, mentality and physique like Niger. They are very big and strong and also play a fast game, so they will give us the test we need before we head off to Niamey. The good thing also is that they will be bringing their overseas-based players. We also going for victory to help us get back on our climb in the FIFA world rankings,” added the head coach.

The team assembles for camp on August 7 at the Southern Sun Monte Casino Hotel in Fourways.

They will have two afternoon training sessions on Monday and Tuesday at the match venue.

Burkina Faso is expected in South Africa on August 8.

Meanwhile fans have been urged to buy their tickets for the match at all Computicket outlets as well as Shoprite and Shoprite/Checkers stores around the country. The tickets are on sale for fifty rand (R50) each for the upper tier stands and one hundred rand (R100) each for the lower tier stands.

There are also VIP Hospitality Packages ranging from six hundred and fifty-five rand (R655) to one thousand four-hundred rand (R1400).
