City’s victory in this Absa Premiership four goals thriller which was played this afternoon at the Peter Mokaba Stadium means Rise and Shine has successfully collected the maximum six points against Bakgaga after having won the first round leg 2-0 on August 18 last year with goals scored by Walter Musona and Jabulani Maluleke then.
Mohammed Anas who was City’s livewire throughout the match scored the two goals, first in the 19th minute before he could brace himself in the 80th minute with the other goal scored by Salumani Phiri in the 54th minute.
Despite being reduced to 10 men Baroka refused to behave like a humble sheep led to a slaughter house as they fought hard to redeem themselves, and their effort paid off as Collins Makgaka scored a consolation goal in the 64th minute.
The victory saw City move one step up on the log to the 7th position with 32 points from 21 matches while Baroka remains on the 12th position with 21 points.
In the other twist of event, Orlando Pirates condemned BidVest Wits to the third position after a smash and grab 1-0 over Golden Arrows on Saturday night. This after the same Wits lost 3-2 to the on and off Cape Town City, also on Saturday night. The Sea Robbers are now second on the log with 39 points from 22 matches with the Students third with 38 points from the same number of matches.
On the hand log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns dropped the valuable two points when they were held to a goalless draw by Bloemfontein Celtic. The Brazilians are on top of the summit with 40 points from 21 matches.
Elsewhere Maritzburg United revived their hopes of avoiding the dreaded relegation axe with a dramatic 2-1 win over AmaZulu on Friday night.
