Proteas’ ‘Cool Factor’ Soars as US Rapper Shows Support

The Proteas are now setting sail for the Caribbean to continue their journey in the T20 World Cup, having left a significant mark in the US.

The South African team has kicked off their T20 World Cup campaign with vigor, securing victories in their first three group-phase games. This strong performance has smoothly paved their way into the Super 8s, even with a match left to play in Group D.

This past Monday, the Proteas secured a crucial win against Bangladesh. Off the field, the spotlight was equally bright, highlighted by the support of renowned American rapper Moneybagg Yo. Famous for his sharp lyricism and distinctive hip-hop style, Moneybagg Yo was spotted receiving a signed jersey from Proteas fast bowler Kagiso Rabada post-match.

During their time in the United States, the Proteas maximized their exposure. They visited Times Square, where they were celebrated with a custom video message on the TSX screen, proclaiming “New York Welcomes The Proteas!” This special feature was orchestrated by Roc Nation Sport International, a notable partner of Cricket South Africa (CSA).

The team’s activities in New York culminated with a visit to the iconic Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, where they were special guests at a baseball game between the New York Yankees and the Minnesota Twins. The Proteas enjoyed a tour of the stadium, and notable figures such as captain Aiden Markram, coach Rob Walter, and Kagiso Rabada participated in a jersey swap with Yankees coach Aaron Boone and star player Austin Wells.

A video showcasing the Times Square event is also available for fans.

In essence, the Proteas have not only expanded their fan base in the US but have also significantly boosted their ‘cool factor’ as they now head to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, ready for the next challenge.
