In a concerning event, Rassie Erasmus found himself hospitalized with severe chemical burns following an accident involving a strong detergent.
Despite the seriousness of his injuries, Erasmus is recovering and is expected to return to his full-time responsibilities soon.

ERASMUS SHARES RECOVERY ON X
At 51 years old, Erasmus has been using X (previously known as Twitter) to share his experiences. He expressed regret over missing a women’s sevens event and disclosed the severity of his injuries through graphic images that depict the progression of his wounds from initial injury to healing.
While dealing with his recovery, Erasmus continues to engage in critical rugby discussions. In January, he critiqued coaches who neglect to instruct players on reducing tackle height. This stance aligns with new rules intended to enhance safety in club and school rugby in South Africa.
“Teaching lower tackle height is manageable, so there’s no excuse for not doing it – it’s about coaching and practicing the right technique,” Erasmus stated. He stressed the value of dynamic, game-like training as opposed to traditional tackle bag drills, promoting a more effective way to enhance technique and safety.
RASSIE AND THE FUTURE OF RUGBY
Erasmus’s commitment to rugby remains unwavering despite his ordeal, and his influence on the sport continues to be significant. As South Africa gears up for their Test match against Ireland in July, the insights from Erasmus’s coaching and his personal fortitude are more relevant than ever.
The rugby community is keenly anticipating Erasmus’s return, hopeful that his recovery is as strong as his impact on the game.
