Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus shared a heartfelt message on social media in celebration of National Women’s Day, directed towards the women of South Africa.
Rassie Erasmus joined the National Women’s Day celebrations with a sincere tribute to all the women in the country. National Women’s Day is celebrated on 9 August in South Africa, marking an annual public holiday.
While the Springboks are currently in Brisbane, Australia, preparing for their opening game of the Rugby Championship against the Wallabies, Erasmus took a moment from his busy schedule to honor South African women.
“It’s night time in Brisbane, but happy Women’s Day to all the women of South Africa, and thanks for your passionate support for the Springboks! I’m thrilled about SA Rugby’s announcement regarding women’s contracts! A big thank you to everyone who supports and loves our players and the game! Hope you have a special day, ladies,” Erasmus wrote on his X account.
Commenting on the upcoming Springboks vs. Wallabies match, Erasmus noted that he anticipates a tough Test against the home team, who enter the match with three consecutive victories this season in a city where the Springboks last secured a win in 2013.
“We only face the Southern Hemisphere teams in the Rugby Championship now, so we know they’ll pose a completely different challenge compared to the teams we’ve faced so far,” Erasmus said.
“They are also playing on their home turf, where they’ve had a strong record against us in recent years, so we know it’s going to be a massive challenge.
“The fact that they are facing the world champions at home, coupled with the knowledge that they are hosting the 2027 World Cup, will certainly motivate them. We also know they are eager to climb the world rankings.
“They are a well-coached team with talented playmakers, so they’ll definitely be fired up for Saturday’s match.”
